Even if you're already getting a bit tired of listening to "Two Weeks" off of Grizzly Bear's Veckatimest(though I, for one, am not), I'd still strongly encourage you to watch this GORGEOUS animated fan video made by some fella named Gabe Askew. I've watched it so many times today I'm surprised I didn't break the Internet. Someone had the time, will, and ability to make this for free and in his spare time, and to that I say, "YES." Love, lurve, squee...!
Well, this just sucks. It's just been reported that Bea Arthur, who had been battling cancer, has passed away at age 86, peacefully and in her sleep. Although I named nearly all of my fantasy sports teams after her, my love for Bea was unironic and I'm truly bummed out to hear that she's gone. Of all the Golden Girls Dorothy was the one I most saw myself turning into someday (well, either her or Sophia), and she taught me at a very young age that growing old isn't really all that bad. She was a funny, awesome, hip lady, and will most definitely be missed.
What with all the hoopla being make over Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are, I guess it's not too terribly surprising that he'd try his hand at adapting another classic children's book to film. How very Hollywood to keep cashing in on the same idea, though!
You've probably seen this already seeing as it's posted on everyone else's blog, but, well... oh well. I guess I just want it on my blog too. Can't help it. Ricky Gervais asking Elmo about necrophilia just makes me GIGGLE.
One of my fellow bloggers over at Don't Forget to Dance pointed me in the direction of the video for Oren Lavie's "Her Morning Elegance," and it's just too fun to not spread it around a bit more. Enjoy.
Although I loved Shel Silverstein as a wee tot (who didn't?), I somehow missed reading The Missing Piece Meets the Big O until relatively recently. Such a shame. When my future children become dating-aged teenagers, struggling with best friends who are, at least at times, also their worst enemies, trust I will be giving them a copy of this book.
But since I am currently childless and too poor to purchase a copy for each of my teenage students, God bless the person who created this animated version of Silverstein's story. I've taken to showing it to my 9th graders every year, and I sure do hope they take its message to heart: Don't look to other people to "complete" you. No one can do that but you, love.
(The fact that Badly Drawn Boy provides the soundtrack is, of course, an added bonus.)
I didn't think it was possible for me to crush harder on Jon Stewart, but I was all a flutter after listening to him respectfully and intelligently challenge Mike Huckabee on the subject of gay marriage. If you're like me and missed it when it aired last night, then it's worth a look...
And since that last post was oh so serious, I figured I'd balance it out with this - a video created by some writers from SNL, The Daily Show and Aqua Teen Hunger Force that made me giggle so hard I snorted. (And you know it's funny when I start snorting.)
Then this should make you smile. Here's what it might look like if McCain were to hire John Woo, Kevin Smith and Wes Anderson to direct his campaign ads. My personal favorite is Wes Anderson's, but you probably could have guessed that...
In case you missed it, I think Tina Fey may have done her best Palin yet on last night's SNL. She's pitch perfect, hilarious and I can't freakin' wait to get my Halloween costume together:
Chances are good you've seen this already, but this clip of Jon Stewart pointing out various Republicans flip-flopping on sexism is just too good to not post:
UPDATE: I've reposted the clip, so it should be viewable again, at least, for the time being...
