A few weeks back we took a day trip to Marvelous Marvin's Mechanical Museum, a place I love but haven't visited in years. Nestled smack-dab in the middle of sprawling suburban strip mall splendor, Marvin's is part modern arcade, part side-show museum, and stuffed to the gills with antique posters, penny machines, automatons, sideshow artifacts and all other sorts of nonsense. It's utterly unique, an absolute sensory overload, and frankly sort of brilliant. It's also a great place to experiment with some new camera settings. Remind me to take you there some time.

Ooooooh, next time I go visit my mom, I'm going to go there!
Nice pics! I bet Paul would like this place. I've never heard of it- is it a west side thing?
It's in Farmington Hills, but I wouldn't really call it a "west side thing" since it's a one-of-a-kind museum (aka: not a location-specific chain). But yes, I'd imagine it's sort of right up Paul's alley.
Yeah, I realized it's not a chain- I guess I wondered if it's more known in that neck of the woods. Anyway, neat!
I feel 98 % certain that if this museum were to see that top picture in particular, it would shortly find its way onto a postcard, mug, and/or totebag.
Which rocks.
Aw shucks. Thanks, Abs. :)
Spectacular! I could totally get lost in a place like that. Wouldn't know where to look first.
I love the fan in the second shot.
And the "Know Thyself" slogan on the palm reader sign in the first.
There's an astrologist/palm reader not too far from where I live...the sign outside her place says she specializes in chakra balancing, karma cleansing...you know, just your average ordinary everyday business.
I'm going to go in there sometime, if only for a unique column/blog entry/chance to hear what my future really holds!
Gregg, as a person who's had her palm read more times than she cares to admit let me assure you that your future most likely holds getting ill, then getting better, falling in love, then falling out of love, and then eventually having everything work out just fine. It's truly an exact science. ;)
Falling out of love and everything works out fine?
We need to talk.
Cheer up, love. The last time I paid to have my palm read was in 1996. (But the last time I spent money on a Tarot reading...well that's another embarrassing story.)
Now that I've been clued in to how the script goes, I'm going to listen until Miss Gina (or whatever the hell her name is) gets to the "falling in love" part, and I'm going to storm out of there with my hands over my ears, shouting "la la la la la la" so I can't hear the rest.
And then I'm going to wait eagerly for my future to begin.
